Technical Analysis: Nifty and Bank Nifty Levels to Watch After Kotak Results

Technical Analysis of the 23 October session shows Nifty 50 opening gap-up, testing Thursday's high near 22,785 within the first five minutes, and failing to hold there. The index then slipped through 22,600, the previous low of 22,554 and 22,458, touching 22,372 before short covering pulled it back to close around 22,600.

The weekend adds fresh variables. Kotak Mahindra Bank reported September-quarter numbers on Saturday, Brent crude has been rising sharply, and remarks from US President Donald Trump suggested further action against Iran could follow over the weekend. Traders tracking strikes and positioning can use Option Chain India as a starting point for their own Monday preparation.

The structure behind the weakness

The daily chart shows four consecutive red candles, a three black crows formation followed by a fourth bearish session, along with a lower-lows pattern. On the weekly chart, ten straight red candles were followed by a single green one, and that bounce has now been sold into another red weekly candle.

The rejection came from the 9-week EMA (exponential moving average, which gives more weight to recent prices), with the 20-week EMA also worth monitoring. Until the index holds above that line, the "sell on rise" phase remains intact. Readers who want to revisit candlestick patterns and moving averages can explore these technical analysis resources.

Nifty Prediction: 22,620 and 22,488 Frame Monday's Setup

The Nifty Prediction for 26 October is a two-sided map, not a call. On the 15-minute chart, upside scenarios open only if the index moves above 22,620 and sustains there. In that case, 22,672 could come into view, followed by 22,710–22,711, 22,758 and Friday's high of 22,787.

On the downside, 22,500 is a reaction zone, but bearish scenarios activate only below 22,488. That could open 22,442, then the 22,400–22,372 zone around Friday's low, followed by 22,330 and the 22,290 area.

What the option chain says

At 22,600, the at-the-money strike, call writers retain a firm grip. Put writers there are largely absent: 35,695 put contracts were unwound. At 22,500, only 4,315 fresh put contracts were written, against 84,279 contracts added on the call side. OI (Open Interest) changes of this kind suggest bears hold the heavier hand. The positioning reads as support at 22,500, mild resistance at 22,600 and heavier resistance at 22,700.

Reading the ladder

The green band holds upside references that become relevant only after a sustained move above 22,620. The blue band holds downside references that apply only below 22,488.

Levels refer to the 23 October 2026 session and option chain. Vertical spacing is ordered, not proportional. These are scenario references, not targets.

Market Analysis: Weak Breadth Despite Institutional Buying

Friday's Market Analysis points to broad selling. Only 14 of the 50 Nifty stocks advanced while 36 declined. Adani Ports, Tata Steel, SBI, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Shriram Finance were among the heaviest drags, with Kotak weakening ahead of its results. Eternal, possibly reacting to its own results, led the gainers alongside Reliance Industries, Axis Bank and Apollo Hospitals.

FIIs (foreign institutional investors) were net buyers of ₹887.65 crore in the cash market, and DIIs (domestic institutional investors) bought a net ₹3,235.36 crore. The index still fell because aggregate flows are spread across several thousand listed stocks; buying elsewhere does not mean buying in index heavyweights.

Bank Nifty Prediction: Kotak's Numbers Meet a Fragile Chart

Bank Nifty closed at 54,287 on Friday, down 638 points. Kotak Mahindra Bank carries meaningful weight in both Bank Nifty and Nifty 50, so its unaudited results for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 matter for the Bank Nifty Prediction.

Kotak Mahindra Bank: quarter-on-quarter snapshot (₹ crore)
MetricJun 2026 qtrSep 2026 qtr
Consolidated interest earned11,714.039,571
Consolidated net profit5,4875,634
Vehicle financing segment income307189
Standalone other income3,3383,193
Standalone net profit4,1224,211
Standalone net NPA1,3571,366.94

The standalone profit increase works out to roughly 2.2% quarter-on-quarter, far from a dramatic jump; larger headline percentages may reflect a different comparison basis. Consolidated total income of ₹29,426 crore was lower than the previous quarter, profit before tax stood at ₹7,530 crore, and profit attributable after minority interest was ₹5,645 crore. The capital adequacy ratio of 21.86% is comfortable, but the uptick in net NPAs (non-performing assets) deserves attention.

Bank Nifty levels

Upside scenarios open above 54,510 if the index sustains there, with 54,705–54,750, resistance at 54,827 and Friday's high of 54,990 as references. Downside scenarios begin below 53,942, the recent session low, with 53,819, 53,663, 53,502 and 53,387 below. HDFC Bank, the largest private lender, along with ICICI Bank, SBI and Axis Bank, carry more weight than Kotak and could decide the direction.

Reading the ladder

The close sits between both triggers, so neither scenario is active yet. The reaction to Kotak's numbers, and to crude oil, may decide which band comes into play first.

Sensex Prediction: Use the Same Logic, Not Borrowed Levels

No Sensex levels were mapped for this outlook, so a responsible Sensex Prediction cannot offer numbers. Many of the same banking and large-cap names drive both benchmarks, which makes Friday's weak breadth and Kotak's reaction relevant. A Sensex view still needs its own chart triggers.

Investors with long horizons should separate this short-term noise from long-term plans. A SIP calculator helps model contributions over time, but any assumed return is only an illustration, not an assurance, and has nothing to do with Monday's index scenarios.

Market Prediction: Crude, Geopolitics and Results Set the Tone

The broader Market Prediction leans cautious, as the data does not favour bulls. If crude oil cools, bulls may attempt another bounce; if the current pressure persists, a gap-down opening is a scenario traders should be prepared for.

Results remain a key driver. After HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank reported last Saturday, Kotak Mahindra Bank and IDFC First Bank declared numbers this weekend. Monday's slate includes One 97 Communications (Paytm), Tata Consumer Products, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Overseas Bank, Ather Energy, Sona BLW Precision Forgings and APL Apollo Tubes.

What to watch next

  • Whether Nifty sustains above 22,620 or slips below 22,488.
  • Bank Nifty's behaviour around 54,510 and 53,942 after Kotak's results.
  • Brent crude direction and weekend geopolitical developments involving Iran.
  • Changes in call writing at 22,600–22,700 and put writing at 22,500.

A brokerage calculator shows how costs affect net outcomes; it does not make any setup profitable.

Frequently asked questions

Why did Nifty fall when FIIs and DIIs were both net buyers?

Cash flows are spread across thousands of stocks. Buying outside index heavyweights can coexist with selling in Nifty constituents.

Is Kotak's profit growth as strong as the headlines suggest?

On a quarter-on-quarter standalone basis, profit rose from ₹4,122 crore to ₹4,211 crore, about 2.2%. Other income fell and net NPAs rose slightly.

What would change the bearish structure?

Sustained trade above 22,620 on Nifty and 54,510 on Bank Nifty, followed by a weekly close above the 9-week EMA, would weaken the sell-on-rise case.
